Camp is off to a great start! The
campers arrived on Thursday and were pretty much unpacked and settled
in and ready to go. Friday morning, the bell rang at 7:15 and
several boys took an early morning dip in Panther Pond. Flag
raising was followed by breakfast and then cabin clean up. All of
the campers had a quick swim test that morning to determine their swim
groups. We also started our orientation period where the boys go
to several activites with their cabin. Each cabin must get to
riflery, archery, woodshop and sailing before we can start sign
ups. Swim groups were assigned Saturday morning and instructional
swim has begun!
Friday afternoon, we had our first "Friday Candy" line when each boy
can chose 2 candy bars and a soda -- always a highlight of the
week! Saturday night, we were lucky as the predicted showers held
off and the cabins were able to have their cookouts. We cook by
cabin that night. The boys help the counselors collect the wood, keep
the fire going, cook the hamburgers, and clean up.
This next week will be our first full week and there will be lots
happening. The Crows and Hawks cabins will be going out on their
camping trips and sign-ups will begin. We have been very lucky so
far with the weather. Rain has been predicted every day but we
have just seen a few showers and the sun was out all day on Sunday.
