Week Five

We were hoping the last few weeks of camp would finally produce some typical Maine summer weather but so far we have yet to see it.  It has been drizzly, overcast, and cool most of this week. Fortunately, it does not seem to affect the spirit of the campers who seem to be oblivious to the weather. We will keep our fingers crossed for warmer and sunnier weather as we enter the last 10 days of camp!

Highlights this week include a visit by Little Wohelo relatives on Wednesday; 2 camping trips - The 5 Day which goes to Lake Azischohos and a 3 day trip to the White Mountains; the First Annual Flag Football Tournament; a visit by Timanous brothers and relatives to Big Wohelo on Friday; the Casco Day Road race; Point-Cook-Out, an all camp Saturday night cook out on Crows' Point - this year in the rain; and numerous competitions including a 10 and under soccer game, 12 and under basketball, 11 and under baseball, 12 and under tennis, and a swim meet against Camp Agawam.

Little Wohelo Relatives Visit Wednesday Night
"Casco Day Race"

A total of 43 campers and counselors ran on Saturday. Everyone did a great job - their pre-race training really paid off. Unfortunately, I didn't get everyone's picture - some were too fast or hidden by another runner.

A little rain could not put a damper on Point-Cook-Out!!

"Sunday Council Fire"
Council Fire is a difficult thing to photograph due to the time of day and the size of the group. Hopefully these pictures  will give  those of you who haven't been able to attend a Sunday Council Fire an idea of what it is. This ancient tradition is both symbolic and practical as the circle of campers signify unity, the pulling of the rope to turn the spindle requires cooperation, and the fire itself is an endless symbol of eternal light and warmth.  The ceremony is a summary of the weeks' accomplishments by the campers who stand briefly in recognition of their achievement.  Promoting our positive approach to discipline, counselors publicly commend  campers for acts of kindness, helpfulness, courage, etc.  Council Fire is a nice ending to a busy week.
