Summer 2005

Back To Summer Of 2005 Main Page.

First, I apologize for having taken so long to get this week's pictures on-line.  I had slight technical problems but have it under control (I hope) now!!

The weather has continued to be fantastic.  We had a few hot and muggy days but a thunderstorm came through and now we are in a stretch of sunny 80 degree days!

Three camping trips went out this week. On Monday, 12 campers and 4 counselors  left for the White Mountains where they camped for the night before getting up early Tuesday to climb Mt. Washington - the highest mountain in New England at 6288 feet.  It was a great day and they had beautiful views.  Not everyone made it to the top but they all had a great time.

Another group of 12 campers and 4 counselors headed north Monday for 4 days and 5 nights of camping on Lake Aziscohos which is on the Maine/New Hampshire boarder. Their first night was spent at  the northern end of the lake before canoeing the second day half way down the lake. They spent 2 nights at the middle camp sight where they  hiked up Lincoln Pond stream and then canoed to the southern end of the lake to Beaver Island for the last night. Before returning to camp on Friday, they hiked Aziscohos Mountain.

The third trip left Wednesday morning and headed to Bar Harbor, Maine  where they spent 2 nights camping at Acadia National Park.  The group of 12 campers and 4 counselors  spent Thursday biking the extensive bike paths in the National Park and took an early morning trip up Cadillac Mountain which is the first place in the United States to see the sun rise.  I have placed the camping trip pictures on a separate page, this week's camping trips.

Back at camp, it was a busy week with our regular activities.  Many boys are working hard to earn awards before the end of camp which is  unfortunately coming quickly!  On Thursday, we took a break from regular activities and had the first Timanous Pentathlon which put all of the campers into 2 man teams which competed in a series of 5 events: riflery, archery, swimming, canoeing, and running.  The boys seemed to enjoy the day!

On Thursday, boys with relatives at Little Wohelo went to Little Wo for dinner and evening activities.  On Friday, girls from Big Wohelo came to Timanous for the second dance of the summer.  The Barn was outfitted with a sound system and our counselors turned DJs over saw the music.  Everyone seemed to have a great time and the barn is still standing!

Early Saturday morning, a group of 40 runners and 12 water boys headed to Casco, our neighboring town for the annual Casco Day Road Race.  The runners had trained hard and they all did great.  Of course the highlight of the event is the fried dough and french fries after the race!

Saturday night, the whole camp marched out the Crow's Point for Point Cookout which is an all you can eat buffet of barbecued chicken, corn on the cob, buttered buns and chips.  The food was delicious and perhaps tasted even better with the whole camp together on the point.

In addition to these activities, we had a 12 & under and a 10 & under baseball game, two 15 & under soccer games, a 15 & under archery match, and a 15 & under volley ball game.

We are now into our last full week of camp and we have so many things still to do!  Still to happen is Beach Day, Junior Granddaddy Gorilla, the Music Show and at least one more game of Capture the Flag!

If you haven't already, please let us know if we will be shipping your son's trunk home. It  is important that we tag the trunks correctly before we start to bring them up Wednesday morning.  You can email me the information at camptiman@aol.com. If you have any questions about the closing of camp, please contact us.  We look forward to seeing many of you next week.
