Week Six
As we get close to the end of camp, life
seems to get busier. The week started off with Beach Day.
The entire camp traveled to the ocean on Monday and it was the best day
of the summer weather wise. It was in the 80s and sunny. The water was
cold but it didn't stop anyone from playing in the waves. We returned
to camp in time to take a dip in the lake and have a little quiet time
before dinner. Tuesday evening, the lower bunkline was invited to
Little Wohelo for dinner and evening activities. Thursday
afternoon was Junior Granddaddy Gorilla -- this time the campers hid
and the counselors searched. Only 2 campers were not found!
Friday afternoon was another round of Capture the Flag and Friday
evening was the Timanous Music Show which was fantastic!! This
was followed by "Horse Races" on Saturday night.
Thursday morning, Don Fendler, author of "Lost on a Mountain in Maine"
spoke to the boys. He is now 78 but when he as 12, he spent 9
days lost on Mt. Katahdin. It is a fantastic story and he was an
excellent speaker. He has a real interest in his audience and
really enjoyed speaking with the boys. He signed books or maps
for everyone who attended.
The boys have been very busy trying to finish projects, finish up with
awards, and try to accomplish any goals they had for the summer.
It is really hard to believe the seven weeks will be ending in just a
few days.
The weather was certainly more summer like this week although it was
still chilly most nights and we still had our share of brief
showers. It unfortunetly poured Sunday evening just before
council fire and we had our first inside council fire in 5 years.
