Back To Summer Of
2005 Main Page.
Things haven't slowed down at all.
The activities have been very busy. Although the regular
activities of rilfery, woodshop, sailing, tennis, handicrafts, archery,
swimming and field sports remain popular, kayaking, the climbing wall,
canoeing, nature, basketball, lacrosse and water-skiing have been very
busy this week.
The Eagles, Hawks, Falcons and Loons all went on their cabin
camping trips. The Eagles and Hawks each spent a night camping on
the shores of Sebago Lake after paddling the Songo River, through
the lockes and into Sebago Lake. The Falcons left on Monday for
the White Mountains. They climbed Mt. Willard on the first day and took
a much more aggressive 10 mile climb up Mt. Carrigan on Tuesday.
They also had plenty of time for swimming in falls and "cliff
jumping". The Loons followed pretty much the same itinerary but
left on Wednesday, returning on Friday. All of the campers seem
to agree that the food on the camping trips is fantastic!
Especially the spaghetti.
Campers participated in a 15 & under soccer tournament, a 12 &
under basketball game, a 15 & under baseball game, a 15 & under
volleyball game, and a home swim meet. On Saturday, we had campers
participate in a cross-coutry meet with each runner running 1 1/2
miles. The same day, we sent a team of sailors to O-AT-KA for a regatta.
There was a change in the schedule of Friday afternoon when it was
announced that we would be playing "Granddaddy Gorilla" which is a huge
game of hide and seek. The counselors all hide,
they are not allowed to go into buildings but they come up with some
pretty ingenious hiding spots -- on top of buildings, in the mud of Red
River, under buildings, inside chimneys, in trees, etc.
Counselors are
worth different points bases on seniority. The cabins to get
the most points wins. - Crogles won for the lower bunkline and Falcons
for the upper.
Friday evening, relatives from Wohelo, our sister camp, came for dinner
and evening activities.
On Sunday morning, the entire camp went to Wohelo for Hiiteni Sunday,
the annual celebration of the camps' founders. It was an
opportunity for the boys who had never been to Wohelo to check it out.
" Sunday letters" might be late as letter writing was delayed a day
because of our busy Sunday morning.
We have had great weather this week. It has been in the 80s every day
with just a couple of thundershowers but no rainy days. We've had
our share of humidity but consider ourselves very lucky when we hear
about the rain and storms that have come close to us.
Just a reminder about our package policy -- if you are thinking
of sending your son a package, please remember that we do not accept
food of any kind. Although this may seem arbitrary, it is based
on years of experience. You would be amazed at the amount of food
and candy that was sent to camp on a daily basis when we did allow it.
We found that in addition to just being too much food, it caused
problems among the campers in the cabins in addition to various
unwanted wild life. We ask that you please respect this rule. We
hate having to take the candy/food away from the boys when it comes in
their package -- it is better just not to send it. The boys do get 2
candy bars a week along with desserts at both lunch and dinner.
Other items which we are not allowing in the cabins are balloons (
usually used for water balloons which break leaving small pieces of
balloon all over camp), water guns, practical jokes which might be
disruptive in the cabins, and battery operated games of any type.
If you have a questions about this, please feel free to contact us.
