We've had a great week of weather.
Even the pathways are drying out! It was a very busy week
at camp with the boys going full speed in the many activities. You will
find links to 3 other pages for this week.
Four cabins, the Eagles, Herons, Crogles and Falcons all went on their
camping trips this week. You can see pictures and read more about
the individual trips
here.
Nothing was typical about Tuesday, July 4th. In the morning, the entire
camp helped to build the
4th of July
Bonfire and we were actually able to
burn it
that
evening. After working hard all morning, we were treated to a
cookout for lunch and that afternoon, an exciting game of Capture the
Flag.
Somehow, the boys also managed to find time to participate in several
competitions with other area camps including a 12 & under and 14
& under basketball games, a 15 & under team sailing match, 15
& under and 13 & under soccer games, 15 & under baseball,
14&under and 12 & under tennis and the Timanous Swim Relays on
Saturday when 5 other camps came to compete.
Friday afternoon, we had a change in our regular activities with
"Friday
Trips". The boys who were not playing in either the 13 &
under soccer or 15 & under baseball games could chose from a
sailing or canoeing trip down Panther Pond, a hike up Rattlesnake
Mountain which gave them great views of Sebago Lake and Panther Pond.
When they all returned to camp, they took a quick swim followed by
"Friday Candy"!!
Just a reminder about our package policy -- if you are thinking
of sending your son a package, please remember that we do not accept
food of any kind. Although this may seem arbitrary, it is based
on years of experience. You would be amazed at the amount of food
and candy that was sent to camp on a daily basis when we did allow it.
We found that in addition to just being too much food, it caused
problems among the campers in the cabins in addition to various
unwanted wild life. We ask that you please respect this rule. We
hate having to take the candy/food away from the boys when it comes in
their package -- it is better just not to send it. We find that
grandparents and well meaning relatives who do not understand this
rule, are the biggest offenders so please share the information with
them. The boys do get 2
candy bars a week along with desserts at both lunch and dinner.
Other items which we are not allowing in the cabins are balloons (
usually used for water balloons which break leaving small pieces of
balloon all over camp), water guns, practical jokes which might be
disruptive in the cabins, and battery operated games of any type.
We are sorry to report that we have been receiving clandestine candy
packages through the mail and/or brought back when the boys go out of
camp. We urgently request that you refrain from this practice. A
fun game for you, means extra and unwanted work for our office staff
and subverts the principles we are trying to instill in your
sons. We thank you for your understanding.
