This was such a busy week, I have split
the pictures!
We started the week building our July 4th bonfire. Everyone worked hard
Monday morning, clearing the woods to make a huge fire. There was
a lot of great team work needed to carry the larger pieces. It
was a great effort and the final result was a fantastic looking bonfire
- it was one of the most well built that I can remember. There
were swims after onfire Building and Monday afternoon, the boys
all played Capture the Flag. Unfortunately, that evening, the
winds were gusting and we were not able to light the bonfire.
Tuesday morning, the Crows left for a 4 day trip to The Forks,
Maine which included a hike up Bald Mountain and
culminated with a white water rafting trip down the Kennebec
River. They had some rain on their trip and the day on the river was
cool but most of them wore wetsuits. To view the photos taken by the
rafting company, please click

The Herons left for their camping trip Thursday night. It included a 5
mile canoe paddle on Moose Pond in Denmark, Maine and a night camping
on the shore of the lake. The Crogles took the same trip Friday
but had the added excitement of a heavy rain storm that evening.
They returned to camp Saturday morning a little soggy.
Saturday morning, we hosted the Timanous Relays despite the foggy, damp
morning. 4 other camps brought swimmers and the teams competed in
various ages groups and various strokes. The Timanous team did a
great job and several ribbons were won. Saturday evening, Willie
Claflin returned for an evening performance. He is a great
singer/story teller and we all enjoyed his performance.
Sunday followed our normal Sunday schedule with Timanous campers going
to Wohelo in the afternoon to sail, play tennis and compete in
archery. After our evening council fire, we were able to light
the bonfire ( I will add those pictures tomorrow).
The week started out picture perfect weather wise. The first two
days were warm, some breeze and with low humidity. We had our
share of rain Wednesday through Saturday and the activities had to
change slightly. On especially cold days, we do not have
instructional swim. Archery and tennis usually have to postponed but
many of the other activities can go on rain or shine. Sunday was
the best day of the whole summer -- hopefully that weather will
continue for a while!
In addition to the Timanous Relays, teams competed in two
12 & under tennis matches, a 14 & under soccer game, a 12 &
under soccer game, and a R.A.T. on friday (riflery, archery and tennis
matches with the same camp).
The boys continue to enjoy our food. With a well stocked salad bar
almost always available and peanut butter & jelly always an option,
hopefully everyone is finding something to their liking. We have
cereal every morning -- this is followed by a "main" course which could
be pancakes, eggs, muffins, bagels, etc. Lunch is usually our biggest
meal. Many boys had "spitting chicken" for the first time on
Friday -- it is one of our more popular meals!
